Pseudotropheus sp. "msobo"

An attractive but infrequently seen species. Dominant males are light blue with dark blue vertical bands. The dark bands merge on the lower half of the body, so that the belly is mostly dark blue. The face is almost completely dark blue as well, except for one or two bands between the eyes. The dorsal fin is edged with turquoise. Yellow egg spots are visible on the anal fin. Females and immature males bluish with brown vertical bands and yellow-brown fins.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

An aggressive, intolerant species that should only be kept with other fish with a similar disposition. Unlike most other members of its genus this fish is a loner, and males do not form harems.

An omnivore, this fish needs a mix of algae and small invertebrates such as bloodworms. Generally easy to feed, and does well in community tanks.

Breeding as for other members of the genus. It is a polygamous mouthbrooder. The female broods the clutch of eggs alone, and the male plays no role in broodcare. The fry, once they emerge, are quite large and easy to rear.
