Synodontis decorus (Clown Catfish, Decorated Squeaker)
A distinctive species with a silvery-yellow body marked with a few large, fuzzy-edged black patches. As the fish mature the ground colour becomes a bit darker and more greenish. The dorsal fin bears a long filament that trails as far back as the tail fin, though this may be absent from fishes that have been roughly handled or kept with nippy tankmates.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Like most other Synodontis this is an extremely nocturnal fish that won't be seen out in the open much during the day. But it is a very beautiful catfish and has a peaceful, pleasant disposition, making it one of the best of the larger African catfishes for the community tank. In the wild these fish are omnivores, eating algae and small invertebrates particularly insect larvae. Feeds on most foods including bloodworms, catfish pellets, and algae wafers. Can eat very small fishes, so choose tankmates of appropriate size, such as Congo tetras, kribs and Ctenopoma.
Tends to get along well with its own kind provided there are ample hiding places. Breeding in the aquarium is not yet reported.
