Yasuhikotakia modesta(Orange Finned Loach, Botia modesta)

A commonly available loach with attractive colouration. The body is pale blue with the fins being an orange/golden yellow colouration.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

One of the larger loaches which should be kept with fish of a similar size. They should be provided with fine substrate to give them something to burrow in as they forage for food. They also have a tendency to bury themselves in the substrate. They do have a tendency to chase other fish away from their space. As with other loaches they do make a distinct clicking noise when eating and also sometimes if they are giving chase.

It is difficult to sex these fish although at maturity the females will become more rounded.

There are no reports of these fish having been bred in aquarium conditions.
