Chalceus macrolepidotus(Pink Tail Characin)

A pretty, silvery fish with a pink to red tail when young. Although widely sold and easy to keep, its large adult size and predatory habits make this a fish for the advanced aquarist.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Juveniles are schooling fish while adults tend to be more idependent. Not especially difficult to keep, but since it is predatory and will eat smaller tankmates, not recommended for the community tank. Can be kept with peaceful cichlids, medium sized catfish, etc.
