Phyllonemus filinemus

Phyllonemus typus and Phyllonemus filinemus are a pair of small brown catfish from Lake Tanganyika that look very similar. The prime difference visible to aquarists is the shape of the whiskers. On Phyllonemus typus these are thickened somewhat at the ends, whereas on Phyllonemus filinemus they are thin and thread-like.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A peaceful but predatory catfish. Does well in groups of its own kind. Can be kept in a (non-aggressive) Tanganyikan cichlid community. Feeds on a variety of invertebrates in the wild, and will also eat young cichlids. Otherwise harmless and adaptable.
